Hawkwell Driving School is based in Hockley in Essex and is run by Alan and Wendy Barker. We are available for lessons from 9am to 9pm 7 days a week and we take pupils for test at Southend, Clacton, Brentwood, Chelmsford, and Tilbury.  We are also often able to take tests, or provide tuition, at short notice.

We can also pick you up from home in Hockley, Rochford, Ashingdon, Rayleigh, Southend-on-Sea, Shoeburyness, Thorpe Bay,  Westcliff-on-Sea,  Leigh-on-Sea, Hadleigh,  Benfleet,  Canvey Island,  Basildon,  Wickford, and surrounding areas.

We specialise in teaching learner drivers, and have an excellent first-time pass rate. We also offer training for Pass Plus, Corporate Fleet Training, Advanced Driving Tests, Driving Instructor (ADI) Part 2 Tests, Cardington Special Test, and Examiner Competition Drive Test.

We abide by the DSA Code of Practice for Approved Driving Instructors, and your learner lessons will be conducted in a 2005 Ford KA.

Alan has been a full-time professional driving instructor for almost twenty years, and has over 20,000 hours learner driver teaching experience. He also has a degree in education and combined sciences and trained to be a secondary school teacher.

As well as being a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) his further driving qualifications include passing the Cardington Special Driving Test for Approved Driving Instructors (This is very similar to the driving test that the driving examiners have to pass, and is the hardest test the Driving Standards Agency conduct).  He has also qualified as a DSA registered Fleet Driver Trainer and was on the DSA Fleet Driver Trainer Register which qualified him to train experienced company car drivers to improve their driving skills.

He has also passed the Driving Instructors Association DIAmond Advanced Test, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) Advanced Test, The Royal Society of Accidents (RoSPA) Advanced Test (this is the closest test to a Police Class One test that a civilian can do), The Heavy Goods Vehicle Test (HGV / LGV C + E) Class One (for Articulated Trucks), the Public Service Vehicle Test (PSV / PCV D + E) Class One (for double-decker buses and coaches), and the Motorcycle Test.
